The Medical Mum

The Medical Mum

You live life between hospital

And the outside world

Your life is very isolating

But yet you must be bold

With every needle & procedure

You watch your child cry

It’s breaks your heart over & over

But you never say goodbye

The monitors are constantly beeping

Yet you must stay sane

You go outside to get fresh air

But you feel like your doing it in vain

Your hair is never brushed

It’s tangled & it’s rough

Your life is a complete mess

But yet you must be tough

Things are always up & down

Some days you just want to cave

Some days are full of darkness

But yet you must be brave

You sit inside four walls

You sit inside your head

You sleep on a fold out sofa

But yet you miss your bed

You are your child’s advocate

So up you must speak

The drs may not listen

But yet you can’t be weak

You may have children at home

So you feel torn between two

Mum guilt is the worst

But yet you must make do

You spend your time alone

Or with drs & nurses

This is your life now

But we miss our spouses

Your calendar is always full

It’s no longer for events

It’s full of scribble & times

But now it’s for appointments

You may need to quit your job

To stay at home with your child

You may even lose yourself

But yet you still smile

You hold your child’s hand

So little, so pure, so true

To the world they may not be perfect

But to us we swear black & blue

You learn a new skill set

With all your child’s medical needs

It’s becomes a new way of life

But yet your heart still bleeds

You wish that things were different

That they didn’t have to suffer

But yet you find peace knowing

They will always have their mother
